Figure 3.13 Sitting posture

When your muscles around the spine have released, you have begun to experience the art of letting go. Perhaps you are also practicing with a self-observing and non-judgmental attitude and are feeling more hopeful and less attached to the results of your morning practice. While this physical, mental, and emotional softening continues, you are ready to move on to learning scoliosis-specific exercises that will help you evolve your curvature and perhaps even normalize it.

CHAPTER 4

Elongation and Symmetry

Once you have released overall tension in the spine, the next step is to work on normalizing the curvature. To accomplish this, you will need the information gathered in Chapter 2 as to which type of curve you have and the direction of the curvature. Your goal here will be threefold:

1.To strengthen the lengthened, weaker side of your curve.

2.To lengthen the shortened, tighter side of your curve.

3.To focus on general symmetry and optimal spinal alignment throughout the length of your spine.
